Safety campaign for motorbikes and mopeds

Because of this, the City Police are taking part in a campaign promoted by the Catalan Traffic Service (SCT), the goal of which is to guarantee compliance with conditions for the circulation of motorbikes and mopeds, and to reduce the number of accidents involving these vehicles, the number of injuries sustained and the severity of those injuries.

The campaign starts today and will run until Sunday, with two sides to it. Firstly, more police action to control and correct infringements relating to the use of two-wheeled vehicles, and secondly, it will focus on infringements by all other drivers which may cause motorbikes or mopeds to have accidents.

A total of 4,544 motorcyclists were involved in road accidents between July 2021 and June this year, some 13.06% more than for the same period the previous year, along with 537 mopeds, representing 1.47% fewer accidents.

To get these figures down, special emphasis will be placed on the use of helmets by riders and pillion passengers alike, as well as documentation for riders and vehicles. There will also be fines for distractions of different types, incorrect turns, not respecting traffic lights or any other form of reckless circulation.
