Barcelona’s beaches ready for the bathing high season
All rescue and lifeguard services, assisted bathing, beach bars, public toilets, cleaning services and information points are available for longer hours, from 10.30 to 7.30 pm, until 11 September. The inclusion of people with functional diversity will be guaranteed with more assisted bathing points, where improvements have been made.
Rescue and lifeguard services will be operating with 54 lifeguards around 21 watchtowers. Cleaning, information, safety and prevention will also be stepped up along the coast, with more City Police officers on duty. Showers will be available again now that the drought alert had been deactivated.
Beach bars, sun-loungers and parasol services are all available, along with three authorised rental points. The public toilets at the Espigó del Gas, the Somorrostro, Bogatell, Mar Bella and Llevant beaches and the Fòrum will be open from 10 am to 7.30 pm. Similarly, all toilets at beach bars can be used by the public and are open all season.
Accessibility for people with functional diversity is being improved this year. The assisted bathing points at the Nova Icària and the bathing area at the Fòrum are open from 10.30 am to 7.30 pm and have basic accessibility infrastructures (walkways, signage and reserved parking etc.), changing modules, amphibian seats and personal lifting mechanisms, as well as technical support staff to assist people with mobility limitations.
Assisted bathing points will now open at the Bogatell and Barceloneta beaches, the latter with a new accessible changing room. All city beaches have reserved parking and accessible routes onto the sand, signage and visual, tactile and aural information, adapted toilets and wooden walkways.
As for the regulation of sport at the beaches, six areas are being kept for sport with no time limits, while ten sports courts are also available for organised sport. Permission must be requested for these. Water sports must be practised outside the bathing area, which is exclusively for bathers and is delimited with yellow buoys.
The bathing area at the Fòrum offers free guided activities for all audiences. The full activity programme starts on 16 June, offering options during the mornings and afternoons from Monday to Saturday, until the end of the season.
Barcelona’s beaches have again obtained Bioshere sustainability certification, recognising responsible and environmentally friendly management, culture, labour conditions, gender equity and social and economic return. The city’s beaches have also been smoke-free since the summer of 2022, with smoking prohibited.
