More green spaces and new parks in the city between now and 2023

Improvements are to be made at 32 green spaces in the city between 2022 and 2023, with a further 8.5 hectares of greenery to be added in line with the goals set out in the Nature Plan. This roadmap defines the short, medium and long-term action to be carried out in connection with greenery and biodiversity in the city, gaining 18.6 hectares of new greenery since 2021.

Between now and 2023, the investment plan for parks and gardens specifies the following improvements:

  • Iconic green spaces such as the Parc de Cervantes and the Parc del Castell de l’Oreneta and plans for a further 16 actions to make improvements in Parc de la Trinitat, Jardins de Can Fabra, Parc del Clot, Jardins de Can Miralletes, Jardins Laribal, Jardins de la Rambla de Sants, Jardins de Mercè Rodoreda, Jardins de Caterina Albert, Parc del Laberint d’Horta, Parc de Can Dragó, Parc Central de Nou Barris, Plaça de la Maquinista, Jardins de Sant Pau del Camp, Jardins d’Interior d’Illa Elena Maseras, Parc dels Tres Tombs and the Jardins de Cèsar Martinell. The budget is for these 18 projects to improve parks is €5.6 million.
  • The 14 projects chosen in the participatory budget, such as the improvements to the Parc de l’Espanya Industrial and the renovation of the historical part of the Parc del Guinardó, will have a budget of €7.5 million. This also includes the eight projects to improve allotments and children’s play areas, plus 19 projects indirectly linked to them such as street-calming measures around schools and superblocks.
  • Renovation projects for buildings located inside parks and gardens, such as the renovation of the Hivernacle structure in the Parc de la Ciutadella and the Palau Marquès d’Alfarràs (first stage).

In parallel, work will get under way on projects to remodel new areas and green streets, representing an additional 8.5 hectares of greenery for the city:

  • Parc Central Marina del Prat Vermell, 19,633 m2
  • Parc de Can Batlló, 24,400 m2
  • Urbanisation of Can Clos, 9,018 m2
  • Parc de la Colònia Castells, 9,602m2
  • Pi i Margall green corridor, 3,620m2
  • Green streets and squares, 8,680 m2
  • Parc de la Sagrera (Colorantes sector), 6,051 m2
  • Jardins d’Anna Piferrer, 4,278 m2

Return of the Spring Festival

As part of the Mans al Verd programme, the Parc del Poblenou will be hosting the Spring Festival on Saturday, 2 April, from 10 am to 1.30 pm. This year’s festival invites local people to come into contact with greenery while respecting the environment. Activities include the planting of bushes typical of the Mediterranean climate at different places around the park, education workshops and recreational activities such as a parade, storytelling, a wish tree and more.

The school spring festival was also held on Thursday 31 March, with students from all over the city planting species in a park in each district.
