New bike lane to connect Sant Andreu with Sant Martí and L’Eixample

Work gets under way on 23 May and is expected to take eight months. The new cycling lane will be 1.7 km long and provide continuity for the recently completed lane in Carrer de Berenguer i Palou.

The lane will extend to various streets in the neighbourhood of La Sagrera, between C/ Josep Estivil and C/ Ferran Turné, connecting the neighbourhoods of Sant Andreu and La Sagrera with Sant Martí. It will also provide a cycling connection with L’Eixample through the new bike land in C/ Mallorca, also due for completion this autumn.

In an initial stage between now and July, preliminary steps include cutting and expanding pavements and the generation of small road islands. From August to October the second stage will see the bike lane created, segregation installed, signage and the installation of traffic lights.

The project has a budget of 1.1 million euros and forms part of the strategy to increase the bike lane network in the city by 32 kilometres by 2023.
