Over a million visits to green points in a year

Out of the total of 1,004,335 people that went to a green point between January and October this year, 64.8% took waste to a neighbourhood green point, 26% to a mobile green point and 9.2% to an area green point. In terms of the volume of waste over the same period, the total of 15,261 tonnes collected represented an average of 15.2 kg of waste per user. The network of green points is a free service that provides local people with a place nearby where they can leave most types of household waste which can’t be left in the usual waste containers in the street. In addition, users can apply online for a card which registers the times they use a green point. According to the number of times they use a green point in a year, a reduction of up to 14% is applied to the municipal tax for household waste collection and the metropolitan waste treatment tax. The use of this card also helps reduce the generation of waste and the cost of its treatment, also improving selective waste collection.

There are currently 28 neighbourhood green points (PVB), with a further 19 in the pipeline, 97 mobile green points (PVM) at different locations around the city’s ten districts, 7 area green points (PVZ) to take larger waste items, and a school mobile green point.
