Security operation to enforce the curfew on New Year’s Eve

The City Police (GUB) and the Catalan police force (Mossos d’Esquadra) will be stepping up surveillance and control in public spaces on New Year’s Eve, particularly once the curfew comes into force at 1 am. The goal is to ensure compliance with health measures to stop the spread of Covid-19.

In particular, checks will be intensified to stop the consumption of alcohol and drugs in public space, unauthorised street vending, behaviour which can disturb local residents and conduct which disrupts social harmony and/or degrades public space.

The City Police will also be bolstering its specific operation to control illegal parties. This includes monitoring social media to detect them, carrying our public safety and preventions tasks, crime prevention work, support for members of the public and general surveillance of public space. Checks will also be stepped up in establishments to ensure compliance with the regulations on the sale of alcohol and closing times.

New Year’s chimes at home

As a result of the measures imposed by the Catalan government to combat Covid-19, there will be no New Year’s Eve celebration in Av. Reina Maria Cristina.

Metro, FGC and TRAM services will all run until 2 am.
