Hangar Visual Arts Research and Production Centre (Carrer d’Emília Coranty, 8-16)

Author:
Jordi Mitjà

Type: Installation

Audience: All ages

Jordi Mitjà explains: “When I was a child, my father, a locksmith by trade, told me not to look intently at the welding because it would burn my eyes. And I obeyed: I would always look away and focus on the dancing shadows and how they became magnified on the workshop walls, or on the sparks and their random paths on the floor.” This project was created from that experience, from the consequences of lights that, despite their ability to hurt your eyes, are at the same time fascinating, abstract and hypnotic.

And the work is based on this original prohibition, precisely with the purpose of disobeying it. The study opens up a whole host of options, carries out some observation work that makes it possible to get as close to the light as possible and is then resolved with three video projections in the room. The public will be able to walk around inside the visual and sound installation and see the video projections and rear-projected images from up close.
