Antoni Arola's relationship with light is infinite. For him, light is an element that can create and modify spaces, generate artistic discourses and intangible metaphors as well as objects. is a light installation which immerses spectators in a moment of beauty within an indefinite period of time that cannot be measured. To spark this immersive experience, the installation uses bulrush seeds (bulrushes are macrophytes usually found on the inner section of the banks of slow-moving watercourses, streams and pools), which expand to a fragile state of weightlessness in the sound of silence, and create a dance of particulate matter that dissolves into the darkness. A halogen light brings them to life with a glow that guides and illuminates them, revealing them slowly before our eyes in the half-light, a vision that doesn’t shy away from the poetic potential for connecting the beauty of the artifice with natural beauty.

The works of Antoni Arola touch on highly diverse fields: lighting projects for various publishers, pieces of furniture, interior design projects and ephemeral installations. He balances his professional career with teaching, workshops, artistic experimentation and research into light. His constant research into beauty, inspired in ancestral cultures and in his own personal vision of light, give him a unique versatility that shines through in every project. His artistic research thus gravitates towards the realm of an essential and intangible element: light. And it does so whether it is absent or present, natural or artificial. Taking a dialogue with light and its interaction with space as a starting point, the idea is to reach out to the public’s visual perception, inviting them to immerse themselves in a new world, intangible, poetic and always open to new interpretations. Among other accolades, Arola has received the National Design Award (2003), four Silver Deltas and a Red Dot Design Award (2012).
