Parc del Centre del Poblenou - Espronceda, 142-146 -behind the MUHBA
Parc del Centre del Poblenou was opened in 2008 as part of the urban transformation of a former industrial neighbourhood. Designed by Jean Nouvel, it combines historical elements of industrial architecture, such as chimneys and metal structures, with newly created green and recreational spaces.
Refugi [Refuge] takes up the concept that Jean Nouvel wanted to capture when designing the park: a natural environment for finding peace and quiet. The symbolic Fals Pimenter [False Pepper Tree], created from light, will become a place of peace, contemplation and rest.
The search for shelter has been an essential part of the human experience; Refuge is both a physical space and an emotional source that allows us to look anew and imagine the reality surrounding us. The installation creates a calm space within the park’s modernity, answering the question ‘How can an industrial space become a place for peace and quiet?’
