Drassanes and Barcelona quays

Management and improvement of public space

District of Ciutat Vella

Precontent

At the beginning of 2018, Barcelona City Council and the Port of Barcelona presented an agreement for a new layout of the city’s port areas. The objectives of this agreement were to achieve an improved integration of the port area into the city, to gain space for public use and to make progress in the sustainable management of mobility and the reduction of emissions generated by port activity.

The transfer of the cruise liner terminals (N and S), as well as the Drassanes ferry terminal used by Baleària, will make it possible to eliminate commercial port uses and open up the quayside areas for public use. Thanks to the cessation of activity at the Drassanes terminal, it will be possible to remove all the tanks behind the Customs building and create a new large open space on the edge of the sea at the Moll de Drassanes, which will give continuity to the Portal de la Pau.

Furthermore, the subsequent relocation of the North and South terminals, located in the Moll de Barcelona on either side of the World Trade Center, once the respective concessions have ended, will make it possible to gain more quay space for public use.

In this context, it will be necessary extend its scope to Moll de les Drassanes, in order to reorganise the areas of the quay that will be opened up for public use.

WHAT ARE WE DOING?

To date, the following actions have been undertaken:

  • Transfer of the activities of cruise ships in the Nord terminal and the Baleària ferries to the Moll Adossat cruise ship dock.
