The Canòdrom-Centre for Digital Innovation and Democracy is a unique space in Barcelona: a public laboratory focusing on technology and democracy; a centre that’s open to the surrounding community, the city and the world; a crossroads between open technology, digital rights and participation.

The Canòdrom is made up of a former betting house, located on the long side of the block, and a racetrack. The complex spans a full rectangular block with an area of 10,000 m2.

The building has two floors: the ground floor was designed as an extension of the outdoor space, and the upper floor as a separate space that offers a lookout. The steel structure gives the complex a sleek, lightweight appearance. The ground-floor stands jut out from the ceiling and are flanked by side terraces with good visibility, while the roof supports a hanging structure with sun protection slats in brise-soleil style.
