La Model is a prison building that has helped shape Barcelona’s contemporary history. This prison, highly symbolic for city residents, is now embarking on a transformation that will turn it into a new gathering space in Esquerra de l’Eixample, breaking down the urban barrier it represented for over a century. The reclaiming of this space for the city and for city residents is a unique opportunity for Barcelona to bring urban regeneration to a space that was closed off for so many years.
La Model is currently a multi-purpose sociocultural facility open to all, hosting a wide range of temporary activities as it starts the process of becoming integrated into the city.
