The 2024 call for applications for the Barcelona Crea Grants is now open

Barcelona City Council, through the Institute of Culture, has today opened the 2024 call for applications for the Barcelona Crea Grants. The grants aim to contribute to maintaining the city’s cultural and scientific momentum, offering resources to develop artistic research and innovation processes in different categories ranging from the performing arts to community creation. Among its modalities, the call allocates 7 grants for creation in art and science (modality H). The application period will be open from 2 to 22 January.
The Barcelona Crea 2024 Grants are intended to support the processes prior to production that accompany the creation of artistic proposals: conceptualisation, gestation, research, experimentation, documentation, writing and rehearsal. This year’s edition includes 124 grants distributed in 9 modalities and with an endowment of €6,000 each. The total amount of the call is 744,000 €.
Among the different modalities, modality H is aimed at creation in art and science. Specifically, this modality is aimed at supporting artistic creation proposals that incorporate the interrelation of artistic languages with scientific and technological ones. The proposals can come from any artistic discipline and approach science from any area of human knowledge, from experimental sciences and technology to the various fields of social sciences and humanities.
In order to solve any doubts, an online information session has been organised on 11 January at 11 am. In order to attend, a registration form must be filled in.
Highlights
Grants can be applied for by natural persons over 18 years of age, legally constituted legal entities, as well as groups of persons (natural and/or legal) even if they do not have legal personality. The documentation to be submitted includes an application form, an explanation of the proposal and the CV of the applicant (or of all its members in the case of groups).
Proposals must meet a couple of main requirements: they must be newly created, and they must be related to the city of Barcelona or its metropolitan area. These will be assessed according to general criteria, which include the degree of innovation of the proposal and the consideration of gender and intercultural perspectives, and specific criteria, where the artistic quality of the proposal, its relationship with Barcelona, the professional career of the applicant and future prospects will be taken into account.
Once awarded, the grants will have to be carried out during the period between the definitive award of the grant and 31 March 2025. The justification can be made until 31 May 2025.
