BARCELONA BASES
Promoting active mobility for a sustainable and equitable society
The objective is to develop a comprehensive methodology that includes geographic, engineering, and social analyses to support decision-making in policies that promote active mobility, especially walking and cycling.
Center: Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya
Urban travel patterns are becoming increasingly complex, and efficient, safe, and sustainable mobility requires reducing the use of private vehicles and promoting public transport, complemented by active modes such as walking and cycling. Despite efforts to encourage active mobility, its adoption varies depending on factors such as geography, infrastructure, safety, and public awareness. This project aims to develop a comprehensive methodology that integrates geographic, engineering, and social analyses to support active mobility policymaking in Barcelona. Through a multidisciplinary and participatory approach, it will analyse the factors influencing active mobility to improve its uptake and promote a more sustainable and equitable city, with a particular focus on its application to the case of Barcelona.
