FRAGILITY AND CARE
The challenge of multidimensional frailty assessment in vulnerable older adults: validation of the Frail-VIG index and identification of frailty profiles in residential care in the city of Barcelona
The objective is to assess the validity of the frail-VIG index and identify frailty profiles among users of public residential care homes in the city of Barcelona.

Population ageing has increased frailty, dependency and multimorbidity, requiring more complex care, especially among residents in elder care centres. This project will assess the validity of the frail-VIG index, a multidimensional tool based on comprehensive geriatric assessment, adapting it to the residential care context. It will also define frailty profiles to improve the biopsychosocial care of these individuals. The index will be validated in a random sample of users from public care homes in Barcelona (50% of 2215 places), considering constructs such as quality of life, risk of pressure ulcers and cognitive decline, as well as its prognostic capacity for mortality. In addition, big data techniques will identify frailty profiles, validated through qualitative interviews with residents or family members. The results will help to optimise geriatric care policies and tailor them to the needs of vulnerable people.
