Barcelona awards 97 distinctions for centenary entities and institutions

The Mayor of Barcelona, Ada Colau, today presented 97 distinctions for centenary organisations and institutions for the year 2022, twelve of which are of a scientific or technological nature, in a ceremony held in the Saló de Cent of Barcelona City Council. This is the first edition of this distinction, which from now on will be awarded annually. The journalist Enric Calpena gave an overview of the city’s centenary entities and institutions.
The distinctions for centenary entities and institutions recognise those entities that are one hundred years old or more and have a proven track record linked to Barcelona. This is a new distinction provided for in the amendment to the Regulations on Honours and Distinctions unanimously approved by the Plenary in March 2022.
Scientific bodies
A dozen of the organisations receiving awards have links with science, technology, science or health. They are the Alumni Association of the Chemical Institute of Sarrià (AIQS), the Natural Sciences Museum Consortium of Barcelona, the Health Management Foundation Hospital de la Santa Creu i Sant Pau, the Private Foundation Evangelical Hospital, the Geological Museum of the Seminary of Barcelona, the Fabra Observatory, the Royal Academy of Sciences and Arts of Barcelona, the Royal European Academy of Doctors, the University of Barcelona, the UPC School of Industrial Engineering of Barcelona, the Industrial School of Barcelona, the UPC – School of Architecture of Barcelona and the UPC – Faculty of Nautical Sciences of Barcelona.
Other awards
Other examples of many other centenary entities rooted in the city that have received the distinction are the Lluïsos de Gràcia, the Casino la Alianza del Poblenou, the Club Deportivo Europa, the Círculo Católico de Gràcia, the Gremio de Pastelería de Barcelona, the Ateneu Barcelonès, the Club Deportivo Laietà, the Real Círculo Artístico de Barcelona, the Orfeó Martinenc or the Centro Excursionista de Catalunya, among many others.
This new distinction complements and is not incompatible with the other medals awarded by the city in recognition of the work or outstanding career of individuals or organisations in the city.
