A guide to restaurants and to emblematic establishments will be among the new features

On Sant Jordi’s Day, you can also visit the Barcelona City Council stands. On Passeig de Gràcia (between C/ Provença and C/ Rosselló) you’ll find all the latest books edited or co-edited by the City Council, while there’s an invitation to the public – people are invited to come and write their own stories to build a collective Sant Jordi mural at the stand in Plaça de Catalunya on the corner between Passeig de Gràcia and Ronda Sant Pere.

Among the new publications released by the City Council is the 2025 Barcelona Restaurant Guide, a selection of finalists and winners of the Barcelona Restauració awards, organised by Barcelona City Council through the Department of Commerce, Restaurants and Food Services. The Guia Emblemàtics Barcelona 2025, by Esteve Vilarrúbies i Sánchez is another new publication. It’s a guide to Barcelona’s most iconic establishments, now in its fifth edition and becoming an established resource for promoting our city’s unique shops. It’s published by the Fons d’Imatges del Comerç de Catalunya with the collaboration of Barcelona City Council and the Associació d’Establiments Emblemàtics.

A Sant Jordi’s Day packed with activities

Sant Jordi’s Day 2025 will begin with the Opening Speech on Reading, this year delivered by Mexican writer Cristina Rivera Garza. Winner of the 2024 Pulitzer Prize, the author will be talking to cultural journalist Anna Guitart about her work, and the role that reading and libraries have played in her life. The event will take place at 6 pm on Tuesday 22 April in the Saló de Cent at the Town Hall.

Over this period, the city’s districts and neighbourhoods will be organising a range of different activities, such as concerts, workshops, literary competitions and open days at a number of venues. Wednesday 23 April from 10 am to 8 pm will be open day at the Town Hall. Entrance is free and open to all (with limited capacity), and visitors will be able to explore places like the Escala Negra, the Capella del Bon Consell, the Saló de Cròniques, the Sala Tàpies and the Galeria Gòtica.

There will also be a shadow puppet show for children, ‘La llegenda de Sant Jordi’ [The Legend of St George], from 10.30 am to 2 pm, and 3.30 to 5 pm, and Plaça Sant Jaume will once again be the setting for the traditional sardana concert, which will be starting at 7 pm.
