The 26th edition of Sónar will offer 140 performances by artists from 36 different countries

The festival will be held from 18 to 20 July at Fira de Montjuïc in Barcelona for Sónar de Dia and Fira Gran Via in L’Hospitalet for Sónar de Nit.

The 26th edition of Sónar, the festival of music, creativity and technology of Barcelona which is usually held in mid-June, is changing dates this year and will be held between 18 and 20 July with a total of 140 performances, including 80 world premieres on 10 stages, divided into the daytime Sónar de Dia at the Fira de Montjuïc in Barcelona (Av. de Rius i Taulet, s/n) and the night-time Sónar de Nit at the Fira Gran Via in L’Hospitalet (Av. de Joan Carles I). Sónar 2019 will present 89 concerts and 51 DJ sets featuring global stars and emerging artists from 36 different countries, with a strong audiovisual component. The latest technological innovations will be used in a total of 12 performances, including artificial intelligence, data visualisation and live scientific experimentation.

Sónar 2019 combines global electronic dance stars and urban beats with artistic exploration on the geographical and sound margins. The festival will be a huge celebration of the music of the future featuring a broad array of global and emerging stars.

The dozens of world premieres and unique experiences include new shows from A$AP Rocky, Bad Bunny, Skepta, Disclosure DJ Show, Paul Kalkbrenner, Underworld, Four Tet, Arca, Kaytranada, Dixon, Vince Staples, Amelie Lens, Floating Points (6h set), FKJ, Lorenzo Senni - Stargate, Daphni, Maya Jane Coles presents Nocturnal Sunshine, Octavian, DJ Koze,Louie Vega & Honey Dijon, Theo Parrish, Sevdaliza - The Great Hope Design, Daito Manabe + Kamitani Lab: dissonant imaginary...

After its 25th anniversary, this year the festival is reaffirming its mission of diversity, with a major contingent of creators whose artistic discourses are built upon radicalism or on the geographic, political, sound or gender margins. Featured artists in this vein include Sevdaliza, Lotic, K Á R Y Y N, Jlin, Muqata'a o Hibotep.

This edition also suggests listening carefully to the different sound corners of the world with artists from 36 countries and a very prominent contingent of the new sounds from Africa, with Petite Noir, Deena Abdelwahed, Sho Madjozi, DJ Lag, Obongjayar, Faka and Slikback, and from Latin America, with Bad Bunny, Nicola Cruz, Dengue Dengue Dengue!, LAO & Wasted Fates N.A.A.F.I., ha$lopablito and Jesse Baez.

There will also be room for Catalan and Spanish artists, the areas with the strongest representation, with Bad Gyal, Dellafuente, Cecilio G, Territoire, Ylia, Virgen Maria, Tutu, Desierto + Desilence, Hamill Industries, MANS O, Aleesha, La Diabla, Phran, $kyhook, RRUCCULLA and Alba G. Corral, among many others.

Plus, one of the new features of this year’s edition is related to the environment and sustainability. For the first time, the festival will offer reusable and returnable 50-cl cups at both Sónar de Dia and Sónar de Nit. The cups are available at all the bars at the festival and require a 2-euro deposit to be paid with the first drink.
