A rocking anniversary at Sala Upload
The North American band The Schizophonics, headliners of the celebrations for the ninth anniversary of the Poble Espanyol music venue.
Rock, rock and, before you go home, a bit more rock. This is the musical menu that will be served at Sala Upload during the celebrations on Saturday, 3 February, the anniversary of the venue, which opened its doors nine years ago. North Americans The Schizophonics (pictured. Photo: Minivan Photography), but also Grande Amore, Duralex and Tetas Frías. Will you miss it?
It has made a name for itself in Barcelona's nightlife and, after being declared best club of the year by specialised magazines, has become a mandatory stop for lovers of live music in general and for followers of rhythms ranging from psychedelia and Afrobeat to techno, punk, garage, trap and, above all... rock.
The Schizophonics, a band from San Diego formed in 2009 and one of the main current references on the rock scene, with extremely powerful live performances that have led them to be defined as a kind of extravagant, mouth-watering blend of Little Richards with Iggy pop and something else. The band is formed by Pat and Lety Beers.
With them, a DJ trio formed by Asia Knox (aka Latin Geisha), Debbie Doll, The Neighbour, Cristina Alonso & Jordi Duró (The Boiler Club) and The Musical Sisters, but, especially, a few more bands with rock as the ultimate reference.
You will enjoy Grande Amore, a band that uses synthesizers, drum machines and guitars while they sing, sweat and dance. They have as much fun as the audience. Or maybe even better? They're accompanied by the electron-ish punk of Barcelona's Tetas Frías, a band that, get the idea, defines itself as the creators of "turbo electro mega punk from grandmas". What does that sound like? You'll have to come and check it out.
The trio of bands that pay tribute to Sala Upload on its anniversary is rounded off by Duralex, a band critical of consumer society and gender roles that has just appeared on the most rogue punk-rock scene with an EP that is sure to make a big splash and is called Fragility.
Do you want to let yourselves be swept off your feet by a four-part rock wave? Then come and celebrate the anniversary of Sala Upload, but first check the website for information about the party.
