The Barcelona Modern Art and Antique Fair returns

From the 4th to the 8th of March, in the Drassanes Reiales, the Antique Dealers’ Association of Catalonia will once again stage an event that has not been held for the past three years

An Antoni Tàpies piece entitled Marc-Creu, on loan from the Lorenarte Gallery in Madrid, an unpublished edition of etchings by painter Marià Fortuny, a series of 18th century pharmaceutical recipients from the Olga de Sandoval antiques gallery – this is just a sample of the thousands of articles of furniture, sculpture, jewellery and ceramics that, from the 4th to the 8th of March, can been seen and purchased in the Barcelona Modern Art and Antiques Fair on its return following a three-year absence.

This year the Gremi d’Antiquaris de Catalunya, or Antique Dealers’ Association of Barcelona, has foreshortened the fair and lent it a more refreshing, didactic feel. Under the acronym FAMA, the fair will take place in the 2000 square metre Marqués de Comillas Room of the Drassanes Reiales, or Royal Shipyards, and will feature around thirty exhibitors who will present a range of objects including pieces of African, Pre-Colombian and Oriental art as well as archaeological materials and objects that form part of the history of arts and crafts in Catalonia.

Beginning on Wednesday the 4th of March at 5 pm and continuing up until Sunday the 8th, the exhibition space will also feature tasting sessions, book presentations and the celebration of Art Night on Thursday the 5th from 8 pm to 10 pm.
