“Bohemis”, in the Sant Andreu Teatre
On Tuesday the 24th of September, the Ciutat Comtal Zarzuela Company will present the Catalan version of the zarzuela composed by Amadeu Vives
Bohemios is a zarzuela (Spanish folk operetta) that was originally written in Spanish by Guillermo Perrín and Miguel de Palacios with a musical score by Amadeu Vives. It was performed for the first time in the Teatro de la Zarzuela de Madrid on the 24th of March, 1904.
Inspired by the famous Parisian tale from the novel, Scènes de la Vie Bohème, by Henri de Murger, Bohemios, a one-act zarzuela divided into three ‘cuadros’, or scenes, rapidly became a huge popular success. While it is based around the famous story of La Bohème, by Puccini (or Leoncavallo), and is set in similar surroundings in bohemian, mid-19th century Paris, the story line is not quite the same.
The Catalan version by the Sant Andreu resident features José Luis Blanch as tenor, Núria Lamas, soprano, and Crist Viñas, baritone, while Montserrat Miralles, Xavier Dolç and Rafael Miralles are in charge of stage direction, musical direction and general coordination, respectively.
Aside from the remainder of the cast, this version of Bohemis, which the Companyia Ciutat Comtal once again brings to the Barcelona stage and which can be seen in a one-off performance in the SAT on Tuesday the 24th of September, is accompanied by the Aula Lírica de Granollers orchestra and the Coro de la Lírica de Sant Andreu.
