Bradley Cooper stars in Clint Eastwood’s “American Sniper”

The film, which opens in cinemas on the 20th of February, has earned six Academy Award nominations, adapting the autobiography of Chris Kyle, a US Marine sniper deployed to Iraq

American Sniper, directed by Clint Eastwood and starring Bradley Cooper, opens in local cinemas on the 20th of February. The film is an adaptation of the autobiography of US Marine Chris Kyle, the most lethal sniper in the history of the US armed forces, deployed to Iraq on four occasions to protect his colleagues.

Kyle was noted for his millimetric precision on the battlefield, a talent that led to his saving the life of many of his comrades in arms while eliminating many of the opposing forces, eventually earning him the nickname “Legend” among his colleagues. Kyle’s reputation, however, also extended to the opposition, who put a price on his head and made him a priority target for insurgent groups. Kyle took part in four distressing missions in Iraq and, when he returned home to his wife a children, discovered that he could not stop thinking about the war. In 2013 he was murdered by an ex-Marine for reasons that remain unclear.

American Sniper has earned six nominations for the upcoming Academy Awards to be held on the 22nd of February in Los Angeles: Best Film, Best Actor, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Film Editing, Sound and Sound Effects. The film is the second film by 84-year-old veteran Clint Eastwood to open in the USA following the musical Jersey Boys and supposes the third consecutive Academy Award nomination in the Best Actor category for Bradley Cooper, following American Hustle and Silver Linings Playbook.
