Heidi Igualada and Marta Campos

The unmistakable sound of the Nueva Trova Cubana

Cuban and singer-songwriter's music takes centre stage at the Sagrada Família Civic Centre.

The singer-songwriters Marta Campos and Heidi Igualada, both leading musicians of the Nueva Trova Cubana, will give a concert on 13 April at 8 pm in the auditorium of the Sagrada Família Civic Centre, as part of the Ara Toca cycle and on the occasion of the Barnasants Festival.

Barnasants was born with the aim of promoting singer-songwriters' songs, and this year Cuba is the guest country. That is why we are approaching these two artists of the Nueva Trova Cubana, a phenomenon born in the second half of the 1960s in Cuba, a continuation of previous troubadour movements in the Caribbean country.

Marta Campos is a composer and guitarist. Born in Havana in 1954, she is considered one of the main female referents of the Nueva Trova. She has been awarded a Distinction for National Culture and the Nicolás Guillén Medal and has recorded albums such as Quiero dormir con la luna (1997), Como soy (1999), Entre rumbas, sones y boleros (2004), Caminar contigo (2009) and Sigue siendo mi verso (2012).

Also born in Havana in 1967, Heidi Igualada's nuanced voice is unmistakable and makes her one of the most excellent Cuban singer-songwriters. She has received several nominations and awards for her discography, including Serenata (2002), En la línea de mí mando (2007), Aires de noviembre (2012), Caminos (2013) and Azules (2022), which will feature in a large part of her performance.

Admission to see these two artists is free and registration is not required, but please note that seating is limited. If you would like to contact the civic centre, please consult their website.
