Soprano Carolyn Sampson

Carolyn Sampson, a voice out of the ordinary

The second and last performance by the soprano will take place on 10 June at Palau de la Música Catalana.

On 5 May, soprano Carolyn Sampson offered a carefully selected repertoire with pieces by Haydn, Schoenberg and Widmann, accompanied by the chamber quartet The Heath Quartet. On 10 June, the British soprano will perform her second and last scheduled show on the stage of Palau de la Música Catalana – this time, a duet with organist Juan de la Rubia. They will perform Anna Magdalena Bach's Notebook by J. S. Bach, two books with handwritten notes the composer gave his wife, which perfectly portrays the domestic music of the 18th century and the tastes of the Bach family. The first book contains works by Bach himself, while the second book is a musical compilation of pieces by him and other composers of the time from different genres.

Carolyn Sampson is one of today’s most prominent voices. The two programs she has brought to Palau de la Música this season have been very contrasting and have served to demonstrate her artistry and versatility. Sampson has garnered awards and has been acclaimed in many of the world's major music venues. Her vast repertoire makes her a well-rounded artist. Juan de la Rubia, a specialist in harpsichord and positive organ, is not far behind either. He is currently the titular organist of the Basílica de la Sagrada Família in Barcelona and professor of improvisation at Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya.

The concert is on Thursday, 10 June, at 8 pm in the Petit Palau. Tickets are 30 euros and can be bought here.
