Carretera de les Aigües and the surrounding area

Twenty-one kilometres long and passing through the Serra de Collserola, the trail is one of the green areas most visited by Barcelona residents and offers unbeatable views of the city

With more than 8000 hectares of parkland, the Serra de Collserola is the largest green area in the province and includes the Carretera de les Aigües, a 21-kilometre walking and cycling trail that traverses the entire mountain range and from where one can enjoy impressive views of the city.

The Carretera de les Aigües is virtually flat and derives its name from the former water distribution canals that passed through the area. It is one of the most-visited green areas in the region with an estimated 750,000 visitors every year from Barcelona and the surrounding area. The green corridor is also used by cyclists and includes what is known as the Ronda Verda, a complete cycling circuit of the city.

Numerous points along the route offer splendid views of the city but specific lookout points are also available, the most recommendable among them being the Mirador dels Xiprers, from where one can see Montjuïc and Baix Llobregat, the castle and the Mirador de Torre Baró, with views of the northern districts of the city, and the Turó de Sant Pere Màrtir which, in addition to offering spectacular views of Barcelona, is of historical significance and still retains pieces of the anti-aircraft placements installed during the Civil War.

The areas surrounding the Carretera de Aigües also offer plentiful gardens, squares and parks, such as the Viver de Can Borni Gardens, a garden centre established in 1919, and Parc de la Font del Racó, located close to the pathway on the Avinguda Tibidabo.
