The role of female researchers in Catalonia

An exhibition on the professional and personal careers of great catalan women in science.

The Catalan Association of Scientific Communication (ACCC) presents an exhibition based on the work of 24 professional women in scientific research and dissemination. Catalan Women in Science 2.0 shows real cases of women who have contributed to overcoming gender stereotypes in the STEAM disciplines (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics), a goal that has not been affected by the Covid-19, since the exhibition is available online for everyone.

This project, coordinated by the ACCC's Gender Perspective Group, disseminates the role of women scientists in Catalonia by opening a window on the careers of professionals who belong to different fields such as computational neuroscience, molecular genetics, robotics, biology, bioengineering and materials science, among others. Besides, this exhibition puts together the Catalan sociocultural context and a true love for research and dissemination.

This is a gender-based sample to highlight the role of Catalan women in the scientific and technological field, where women are still at a disadvantage compared to men and face many obstacles to growing up in equal conditions. The protagonists of the exhibition prove to have an active role and demonstrate with their journey the fundamental role of women in the advancement of science.

In parallel, two sessions will be held on May 5th and 15th at 6 pm, coordinated by the Espai Viquidones of the UPF to expand the contents of Wikipedia around the female scientists of the exhibition. The first session consists in a workshop about Wikipedia edition, and the second one will be focussed on adding contents to the biographies of the scientists represented in the exhibition.

You can visit the exhibition following this link and sign up for the Viquicientífiques sessions from this form.
