A scene from the musical, 'A Chorus Line'

'A Chorus Line' joins the list of great musicals performed in the Tívoli

The show was performed for 15 years on Broadway and it now reaches Barcelona, coproduced and codirected by Antonio Banderas.

It is one of the most successful Broadway musicals. It opened in 1975 and ran for 15 consecutive years, during which time it won numerous awards, including nine Tony Awards. We’re referring to A Chorus Line. The well-known actor Antonio Banderas fell in love with the musical, and he has played a key role in ensuring this show can be watched on different stages around Spain with top-quality staging and an excellent cast that are probably just as good as in the original show. Banderas is the coproducer and codirector, and he shares the baton with Baayork Lee, one of the protagonists in the original production, who has directed 35 productions of A Chorus Line outside the United States.

The musical opens in the Teatre Tívoli on 21 February, and is expected to run until 29 March. Consequently, it will be added to the long list of emblematic musicals that have been performed on this stage, which will continue to grow because Grup Balañá, responsible for managing the venue in C/ Casp, has already announced that another great musical will arrive before the summer.

With the book by James Kirkwood, Jr. and Nicholas Dante, lyrics by Edward Kleban and music by Marvin Hamlisch, A Chorus Line unfolds during an audition held on a bare stage, with 19 dancers who want to fulfil their dream of working in a musical.
