60 years with a license to kill
Phenomena is celebrating the anniversary of Agent 007 with the screening of the original titles of the saga.
He is the world's most famous secret agent. James Bond, Agent 007, began as a fictional character of a literary nature, created by the British journalist and novelist Ian Fleming in 1952. Barry Nelson played him on television in an adaptation of Casino Royale. But the first cinematic Bond was Sean Connery, a Scottish actor very different from Fleming's vision, who initially disliked this choice but eventually changed his mind.
To mark the 60th anniversary of the release of the first film, Dr No, in 1962, the Sala Phenomena Experience has programmed a cycle entitled 60 Years of Bond in which all the films of the saga will be screened in chronological order over the course of a week. All titles are available in 4K.
All Bond titles are offered, from the first to the last Daniel Craig film. There will be available, for example, what critics have considered the best films of the saga, such as Goldfinger (1964), in which we discover for the first time the way Bond drinks Martini; From Russia with love (1963), which stands out for its excellent action scenes; Casino Royale (2006), in which Craig makes his first appearance as Bond, appropriating the character without losing his signs of identity; or GoldenEye (1995), a title that showed a more modern Bond and the first one starring Pierce Brosnan.
There are a couple of titles that, unfortunately, will not be there because they were not produced by MGM/Eon and are not considered part of the franchise. These are Casino Royale (1967), a film that parodied the titles and starred David Niven, and Never Say Never Again (1983) with Sean Connery, who would say goodbye to the character.
In addition, on Saturday, 27 August at 3:15 p.m., Everything or Nothing: The Untold Story of 007, a 2012 documentary with interesting and little-known interviews and stories, will also be screened.
Seven actors have played Bond. After Connery (1962-1967, 1971, 1983) came David Niven (1967), George Lazenby (1969), Roger Moore (1973-1985), Timothy Dalton (1987-1989), Pierce Brosnan (1995-2002) and Daniel Craig (2006-2021), who bids farewell to the character with No Time to Die. Some questions remain: who will be the next one? Rumours talk of Henry Cavill or Tom Hardy, but no decision has been made. Could it be a woman? It isn't impossible, but unlikely. However, things are changing. In fact, in No Time to Die (the last film that will be screened), we are already introduced to an excellent 007 actress, Lashana Lynch.
