A moment in the creative process behind the new Cirque du Soleil show

Cirque du Soleil scouts Messi

World première in Barcelona of the new show by the prestigious company from Quebec, based on the Argentinian star.

On 10 October, Parc del Fòrum will host the world première of a new show by a company known all over the world: Cirque du Soleil. It's no surprise that the Quebecois company has chosen Barcelona for this première, as the new show (which is just as spectacular as ever) is inspired by Lionel Messi, the Argentinian football player who has worn blue and garnet for so many years, bringing FC Barcelona fans so much joy. We have good news and bad news for you. Let's start with the bad: don't rush out to buy tickets for opening day because they've been sold out for weeks now. And now the good: Cirque du Soleil will be performing at Parc del Fòrum for a whole month, through 10 November, and there are still tickets available for the other performances.

Messi10, the title of the show, tells the story of a young man with inexhaustible ambition to overcome any obstacle that tried to stop him from becoming the best number 10 in the world. The company has been working on the show for two years and in the words of creative director Sean McKeown, “The show will inspire everyone to reach the 10 we all have inside us.” The show will feature 46 artists from 15 countries and, according to Cirque du Soleil, will recreate “the stadium’s electric atmosphere in the theatre’s intimacy.” The company believes it “acrobatically uncovers the athleticism, devotion and brilliance that bridges the world of football and circus.”
