Summer CosmoNits

CosmoCaixa launches its cycle of open-air science fiction films with a concert leading up to the event.

The long, hot summer days call for night-time and open-air activities. Open-air proposals are common on the nights of the warm season and CosmoCaixa, once again this year, joins the summer trend with its CosmoNits (CosmoNights in English) music and film cycle. Every Thursday in July and August you can enjoy a live music concert followed by the screening of a science fiction blockbuster. Electronic, soul, jazz, pop or funk are some of the genres that will be played at the concerts this July, and themes such as robotics, artificial intelligence, space and time travel, or extraterrestrial life, which will be the focus of the month's films.

The series opens on Thursday 1st of July with James Cameron's action classic, Terminator 2: Judgement Day (1991), which speculates on the future, robotics and time travel. Prior to the film, the singers of The Scarlets will empower women within the realm of modern music and genres such as rhythm and blues and electronic neo-soul. On the 8th of July, Her, by Spike Jonze (2013), will explore human emotions and our species' relationship with artificially intelligent machines. The screening will be preceded by a recital by the electronic music duo Moon Vision. On the 15th of July, the jazz manouche of the quintet Acoustic Guiri will open a session suitable for children from the age of 7, with the animated film Big Hero 6 (Don Hall, 2014), about the adventures of a teenager with a passion for technology and his robot.

With the filmmaker James Gray and his odyssey Ad Astra (2019) you will cross the limits of the solar system to enter a family story whose background revolves around a mystery that threatens humanity. It will take place on the 22nd July in a session where Clara Gispert will make us vibrate with her fusion of musical styles such as jazz, pop and country. And on the 29th of July, Super 8 (J.J. Abrams, 2011) recaptures the spirit of great 80s blockbusters such as E.T. through the story of five teenagers who experience a train crash that triggers a host of inexplicable phenomena. The show will be opened by visual artist and composer Arema Arega and her sounds that combine tropical rhythms with soul, blues and jazz.
