Still from the documentary President

Camilla Nielsson's portrait of the struggle for democracy in Zimbàbue

The Danish director shows in a documentary the first election campaign of the post-Mugabe era.

Released in 2021 and filmed in Zimbabwe during the 2018 election campaign, the first after the country was ruled for 37 years by Robert Mugabe, the documentary President will be shown in different cinemas and venues in Barcelona in the coming weeks. It is the film chosen by DocsBarcelona as the documentary of the month for June. Directed by Danish director Camilla Nielsson, the film narrates a crucial moment in the African country: the struggle between a population mobilised for change and an old guard that does not want to give up its privileges. It is a story told in situ and in the present. The film has been described as "a political thriller of unprecedented intensity, a fast-paced clash between dictatorship and democracy". At the Sundance Film Festival two years ago, Nielsson's documentary was awarded the Special Jury Prize.

The first screening of President will take place at Cinemes Girona on the first day of June. The following day it will be screened at the Teatre de Sarrià, where it will also be shown on 18 June. On the 14th it will be shown at the Biblioteca Esquerra de l'Eixample - Agustí Centelles, and the following day at the Auditori de Sant Martí. On 20 June it will be the turn of La Casa Elizalde Cultural Centre, while on the 22nd it will be shown at the Ateneu Fort Pienc Civic Centre. The last sessions will be held on 27 June at the Vilapicina i la Torre Llobeta Library, and on 30 June at Lluïsos d'Horta.
