"Els fruits sabrosos" (Delicious fruits), by Josep Carner, as part of the series Sant Pau INÈDIT

On the evening of the 20th of June the Sant Pau venue will host a concert by the Vincens Martín Group with Gemma Abrié based on the works of the Catalan ‘Noucentisme’ poet

“Els albercocs i les petites collidores”, “Les magranes flamejants” and “Els raïms immortals” are some of the 18 poems that constitute “Els fruits sabrosos”, written by Josep Carner at just twenty-two years of age in 1906 and considered by many critics to be the one of the milestones of the Catalan cultural movement known as Noucentisme. In the book the poet dedicates each poem to a fruit in metaphorical representation of the emotions of the protagonist of the piece.

As part of the programme of activities entitled Sant Pau INÈDIT on the evening of Friday the 20th of June, Vincens Martín, in conjunction with some of the members of the Dream Big Band and the vocal talents of Gemma Abrié, will offer a musical interpretation of the poems in question. The performance, which has been acclaimed as the year’s best original proposal in the jazz genre by popular vote in the Enderrock Awards, lasts just over an hour and, on this occasion, is presented in a reduced format.

The gardens of the modernist complex designed by Domènech i Montaner, then, will bear witness to Carner’s noucentisme poetry in the form of a unique combination of styles designed to breathe new life into the poet’s “delicious fruits”.

The concert will take place in the Sant Pau venue on Friday the 20th of June at 9.30 pm. Tickets are priced at 10 euros and may be purchased here.
