Surrounded by Frida Kahlo's art

The Ideal Centre d'Arts Digitals is world premiering an immersive exhibition dedicated to the Mexican painter.

On the first day of December, the Ideal Centre d'Arts Digitals is launching the exhibition Frida Kahlo, the life of an icon. Barcelona will be the first city to host this exhibition, which combines digital arts, large format projections and virtual reality without neglecting the classical exhibition environments. It's a project created by Layers of Reality, Minoria Absoluta and Magma Cultura and has the support of the Barcelona City Council and the Generalitat de Catalunya. At the moment, there are tickets on sale until 27 February. However, an extension of the exhibition, reliant on its success, wouldn't come as a surprise. Its predecessor in this space, located in Poblenou, the one dedicated to Gustav Klimt, has been open to the public for seven months.

Visitors will find a proposal with immersive large-format projections on a more than 1,000 square meter large screen, virtual reality goggles, different exhibition spaces and other interactive tools – a spectacular cultural project thought out for all age groups that allows guests to feel as though they are inside the paintings, in this case, Frida Kahlo's (Coyoacán, Mexico City, 1907-1954). About the reason for choosing the Mexican artist for the exhibition, organisers say: "In the 21st century, the life of Frida Kahlo captures, surprises, sensitises and inspires through the memories and anecdotes that reveal a woman capable of overcoming adversity thanks to her strength, rebellion and talent." Frida Kahlo, the life of an icon takes a closer look at her work, but also her life, which was marked by polio, a serious traffic accident, and her relationship with the artist Diego Rivera.
