‘American Rapstar’ will open the IN-EDIT 2021

Eighteen years of the best musical documentary cinema

Starting on October 28 with 'American Rapstar' by Juston Staple, IN-EDIT Barcelona is back.

IN-EDIT Barcelona, the festival specialising in musical documentary cinema that will take place between October 28 and November 7 at the Cinemes Aribau Multicines, has been around for 18 years. In the opening screening, you will be able to watch American Rapstar by Justin Staple, which analyses the most recent generation of young North American rappers that emerged from the musical platform Soundcloud. The festival has split its film selection into different sections: the first one is the International Official Section, in which you can enjoy some of the most recent documentaries, including Bitchin': The Sound and Fury of Rick James, by Sacha Jenkins, about Rick James, one of the essential figures of punk-funk and that, as a producer, left a footprint in disco, R&B and hip-hop music; I'm Wanita, by Matthew Walker, a tragicomedy about the self-proclaimed queen of the Honky Tonk, Wanita Bathiyar, trapped in alcohol and a frustrated dream; and Poly Styrene: I Am a Cliché, by Celeste Bell and Paul Sng, the story of one of the voices of British Punk narrated through her daughter's perspective.

In another section, the National Panorama, you can find the films taking part in the competition: Algo Salvaje. La historia de Bambino by Paco Ortiz; Francesc Burrull: un buit que s'ha d'omplir by Àlex Gómez-Font and Pau Guixà; L'home dibuixat. Una conversa amb Jaume Sisa by Joan Celdran and Àngel Leiro; No somos nada. La Polla Records by Javier Corcuera (which will be the closing screening); Nueve Sevillas by Pedro G. Romero and Gonzalo García Pelayo, and Trance by Emilio Belmonte Molina. On the other hand, the festival is collaborating with Moritz to offer a special selection of electronic music, where you will be able to enjoy Sisters with Transistors or Underplayed, among others. They have also joined forces with Etnia Barcelona to find a more idiosyncratic look, with pieces of the likes of The Nowhere Inn (St Vincent) or Jane by Charlotte.

General admission is 8 euros, but you can get other passes ranging from 33 to 72 euros. Find further information about tickets here.
