Monastery of Pedralbes

The most inclusive way to visit the Monastery of Pedralbes

Get to know the emblematic building thanks to the expert voice of a guide with Asperger syndrome.

The Monastery of Pedralbes, in conjunction with the Monastery of Sant Cugat and the Fundació Friends, has come up with a project that combines knowledge and inclusion. It is called Guide Me at the Monastery of Pedralbes, a visit where you’ll be told about all the details of monastery life with a tour through its main quarters. The unique feature of this activity is that the tour will be conducted by a person with Asperger syndrome, a disorder on the autism spectrum which is primarily characterised by difficulty in social relations, restrictive and repetitive behaviour patterns and an intolerance of changes and unforeseen events, although there are no associated negative effects on the individual’s intellectual capacity. As you will see, this is a great way to see such an iconic site brimming with history as the Monastery of Pedralbes.

The tours will be held every Saturday from 15 June to 28 September, except holidays and the first Saturday of every month. The tour through the Monastery of Pedralbes will last one hour, from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm. The aim of this project is for people with Asperger to find jobs and work as guides at cultural entities, a positive initiative which seeks to normalise the social and work situation of individuals with Asperger using culture as a transformative means, while also giving them more individual autonomy.

This activity costs 3 euros. You can buy your tickets on the monastery website.
