‘Harlequin’

‘The “Harlequin” comes out of the painting’ at Museu Picasso

Celebrating the hundredth anniversary of the painter’s first gift to Barcelona with circus performances.

One hundred years ago, in 1919, painter Pablo Picasso donated his first piece to Barcelona. It was ‘Harlequin’, a portrait of an odd figure painted while the artist was in our city in 1917. Museu Picasso has decided to celebrate the hundredth anniversary of this very special gift, which still hangs on its walls. It will do so, as is fitting, with a series of shows by circus and Commedia dell’arte performers called ‘The “Harlequin” comes out of the painting’. For the occasion, renowned artists have been invited to join in on the celebration: Circ Xic with Ton Muntané and Dani Tomás, Aurora Caja, Marionetas Colegone with Marta Espia and Jonathan Guisado, Dídac Cano, Kari Panska, and Russian dancers Shansa. They will all take over the museum to meet up again with the “Harlequin” and interact with everyone visiting the exhibitions. We’ll all surely be amazed by their acrobatics, dancing, juggling and puppets.

The performances will take place from 14 to 18 May at the following hours: Tuesday at noon; Wednesday, Thursday and Friday at noon and 1:30 pm; and Saturday, on International Museum Day, at noon, 1:30 pm and 10 pm. The activity will take place in the rooms of the permanent collection and the ground floor of Museu Picasso.

‘The “Harlequin” comes out of the painting’ is free with a ticket to the museum, which costs €12. Tickets are free on International Museum Day. More information is available on the museum website.
