Health and brain

The key points to learn how to keep our brain fit and to prevent diseases, in the Civic Center Urgell.

What are the key points to keeping our brains fit and prevent disease ? How can we rehabilitate the brain if you have had a stroke? Eixample civic centers propose a series of talks with the name "Brain Health" and in collaboration with Dr. Maria V. Sanchez -Vives from IDIBAPS (Hospital Clínic Corporation), will address issues of medicine, health and research in a close and understandable way.

ACTIVE AGEING : Brain plasticity in the adult
Monday, September 23
Auditorium, 6.30 PM
The human being has a set of skills (cognitive, functional, motor, emotional and psychosocial) that allow you to adapt to the demands of their environment. Any human capacity is characterized by the fact that the experience and practice can improve it. But to what extent is this true, as we get older?

By Dr. Mara Dierssen, Systems Biology Program, Center for Genomic Regulation.

ADVANCES IN NEUROSCIENCE AND NEUROPLASTICITY
Monday October 28
Auditorium 6.30 PM
The aim of the talk is to show how the latest advances in neuroscience and brain neuroplasticity have provided much information about the changes experienced in the brain to short and long term when listening or practicing any activity related to music (either rehearsing or playing an instrument, dancing, singing, etc.) These studies have given many clues on how you could design training programs or cognitive neurorehabilitation in certain diseases such as strokes or Alzheimer 's disease, allowing to improve some deficits or residual lesions in these patients. The talk will review some of these therapeutic approaches and possibilities of music in neurorehabilitation.

By Antonio Rodriguez-Fornells, IDIBELL ICREA - University of Barcelona.
