International Dance Day

International Dance Day, let’s dance!

APdC is celebrating by filling Plaça dels Àngels with choreographies everyone can join in.

29 April is International Dance Day and the Association of Dance Professionals of Catalonia has decided to join in once again this year. Their goal is to fill Plaça dels Àngels, in front of the Barcelona Museum of Contemporary Art, with dance-lovers, both professional and amateur. The event will begin with an improvised performance by contemporary dancer Diego Sinniger. The celebration will continue with a reading of the International Dance Day Manifesto, written by Cesc Gelabert, one of the most world-renowned Catalan choreographers and dancers. This will be followed by the activity everyone has been waiting for: the collective choreography Everybody dances, created by Mar Gómez and designed so everyone, whether or not they know how to dance, can participate. To prepare, anyone interested in participating will have to learn a few steps, explained in this video.

Mar Gómez’s choreography isn’t new. It was first performed simultaneously in nine towns on 30 March to bring the second annual Dansa. Quinzena Metropolitana festival to a close. The International Dance Day activities begin at 6 pm on 29 April and will take place in Plaça dels Àngels, in the Raval.

This celebration is open to everyone and free of charge, although the organisers recommend signing up using this form.
