Jaume Perich’s humour in El Born CCM

Cartoonist Jaume Capdevila – KAP is the curator of the exhibition held to commemorate the 25th anniversary of Perich’s death.

The humour of Jaume Perich (1941 – 1995) is still as relevant as ever, with his rebellious and poignant look at society at the end of the 20th century. He was one of the country’s most influential artists, well known for his satire, as well as a political and progressive view that he maintained until the end. His importance stems from his cartoons that were published in newspapers such as La Vanguardia and El Periódico, and also his significant impact on the Catalan comic world, as he translated French series like ‘Asterix the Gaul’ and ‘Lieutenant Blueberry’. Thanks to his family, who has donated his work to the Arxiu Històric de la Ciutat de Barcelona, you can enjoy looking at a vast amount of material that has never been published.

The curator of the exhibition ‘Humor amb ulls de gat’ (Humour with cats’ eyes) is the cartoonist Jaume Capdevila, better known as KAP, who seeks to endorse Perich’s role in graphic humour and also put the spotlight on cartoonists’ freedom of expression. The public display, which opens on Wednesday 4 March at 7.00 pm, also includes material by other authors like Opisso and Muntañola. From 5 and 15 March, the Born CCM opens its doors to visitors free of charge, and the exhibition will run until 10 January.

The general ticket to the exhibition, held in Sala Casanova, costs €3.00 and can be purchased in the box offices at the centre. The Born CCM offers other activities related to the exhibition; for example, the conversation ‘Humor amb ulls de dona’ (Humour with a woman’s eyes), on 7 May.
