Barcelona's international meeting of jazz professionals will take place on September 8, 9 and 10.
Jazz I Am is an international meeting held once a year at the Fabra i Coats - Fàbrica de Creació in Barcelona. It aims to create alliances between music professionals through conferences and workshops and, for three days, to host the best national jazz shows. After the 2020 online edition, the programme organizer, Taller de Músics, is back with more enthusiasm than ever. Jazz I Am 2021 is starting on Wednesday, September 8 with a round table about copyrights and virtual concerts. On the same day, there will be two more round tables about playlists on online music platforms and cultural policies for the future of music, in addition to the presentation of the project Voice for jazz musicians in Europe by the Associació de Músics de Jazz i Musica Moderna de Catalunya.
The days after the meeting will feature more round tables and project presentations. However, the main course will be the performances — or showcases — of the different proposals submitted by last March. With these performances, Jazz I Am showcases the originality, quality and versatility of the country's jazz music scene. The chosen projects are Blai Vidal Aïgo Project, Gökhan Sürer Quintet, Gregori Hollis Group, Lucia Fumero, Magalí Sare & Manel Fortià, Alba Careta Group and Sergio de Lope, as well as five proposals that could not perform in the 2020 edition: Curos, Gabriela Suárez Jazz Singer, Quartiana, Tomàs Fosch Quartet and Jose Carra Trio. On Thursday, September 9, Jamboree Jazz Club is hosting OFF Jazz I Am, a concert featuring Mélodie Gimard and Kika Sprangers & Irene Reig Quintet.
