Stanley Kubrick from all angles

A new exhibition, titled simply Stanley Kubrick, is set to open at the Centre for Contemporary Culture of Barcelona (CCCB) at 7pm on 23 October with an inaugural concert featuring soundtracks played by the Vallès Symphony Orchestra (OSV). The exhibition, which can be seen until 31 March, is of course devoted to the celebrated and controversial filmmaker on the 90th anniversary of his birth and the 50th anniversary of the premiere of 2001: A Space Odyssey.

Curated by Hans-Peter Reichmann and Tim Heptner of the Deutsches Filmmusuem in Frankfurt, the exhibition has already called in at cities like Los Angeles, Seoul, Paris and Mexico City. In Barcelona, ​​however, the exhibition will include previously unseen contents, such as a biographical installation by the director Manuel Huerga and storyboards used for the film Barry Lyndon. Critic and writer Jordi Costa is responsible for the concrete adaptation of the exhibition to the CCCB. It’s a great exhibition for film fans and for Kubrick fans in particular since it features a large selection of items used when making his films, including the dresses worn by the twin sisters who appeared in the hotel hallways in The Shining and the axe wielded by Jack Nicholson in the same film, and even the masks worn in Eyes Wide Shut, the last film that Kubrick made. There are also plenty of parallel activities, such as a cycle at the Filmoteca de Catalunya, guided visits to the exhibition and roundtable discussions, along with a number of film screenings, grouped under the title The 20th Century Machine, from 27 November to 28 February.
