Laberints brossians (Brossian labyrinths), a flash fiction competition

Young writers are required to base their story around one of the works on display in the “Escolteu aquest silenci” (Hear that silence) exhibition

The Joan Brossa foundation has organised a flash, or micro-fiction competition based on the Joan Brossa exhibition “Escolteu aquest silenci” which is currently on display in the foundation’s main building.

The competition is aimed at promising adolescent writers between the ages of 13 and 18. Taking inspiration from one of the works on display in the exhibition the contestants are required to write a story of no more than 1000 characters length in accordance with the guidelines of the competition, which can be consulted here. The deadline for participation is the 30th of March and the prize consists of an exhibition catalogue, a book of Brossa’s poems and a mug designed in keeping with the imaginary world of the Barcelona-born artist.

Escolteu aquest silenci, which opened in January and can be seen until the 31st of March, is an attempt to recreate Brossa’s artistic progression and, as such, adopts a pluridisciplinary perspective of the artist’s work by including poems, writings, visual poems, posters, installations as well as a collection of objects that help to portray the artist’s range of interests. Magic, lyricism, social commentary and political activism are all part of one of the most original talents to emerge from 20th century Catalonia.
