Los Sírex: sixty-five years of music at the Sala Apolo
The band is still active and celebrates its anniversary with a tour.
A couple of generations of music lovers have lived through the years reading songs like Si yo tuviera una escoba and Que se mueran los feos. But their authors, Los Sírex, have not left the stage. On the contrary, you can still find them on some of the most outstanding stages, such as the one in Sala Apolo. Come and see them on Wednesday, 10th of January, to celebrate with them their sixty-fifth anniversary of their career.
Between 1964 and 1968 they were the king of the radio stations with their songs, which contributed to popularising the use of Spanish in rock music. This was the genre played by Antoni Miquel Cerveró ‘Leslie’, the vocalist; Lluís Gomis de Prunera, the drummer, now deceased; Josep Fontseré Portolés, on rhythm guitar; Guillermo Rodríguez Holgado, on bass and Manuel Madruga Quebradas, on lead guitar until 1978, when he was replaced by Juan José Calvo Sánchez.
On stage you will have the six current members of the band and some special guests: from Pere Gené, from Lone Star, to Carlos Segarra, from Los Rebeldes, and Manolo García. All of them will recall their great successes in a concert that proves once again that rock has no age and that Els Sírex may not be on the radio all day long in the 21st century, but they have made an essential contribution to the history of local rock.
It all began in 1959 when three friends who lived on Gran Via started playing together, fascinated by the songs of Elvis Presley that they never stopped listening to. The group grew and one of the members, who worked in an optician's shop, suggested that the name of the group should be taken from the name of a metal wire that was used in the glass of some glasses... Los Sírex were born.
If you want to join Los Sírex in the celebration of their sixty-five years of career, don't miss the concert at the Sala Apolo, but before you come check the website for all the information about the event.
