Jordi Savall brings us to the ultimate beauty of 'The Messiah'

The Messiah is one of the greatest works in the history of music, and includes one of the most famous individual pieces ever written: the Hallelujah chorus. Though many people are familiar with this part, not so many have heard the Messiah in its entirety, since it is a long work, lasting approximately three hours. But it must be said that the whole score that Händel wrote - in just over a month, according to historians - is just as magnificent and glorious as the Hallelujah. This work is an oratory - that is, a dramatic, dialogue, but without theatrical representation - and is a regular fixture at concert halls at Christmas and Easter. The director for this performance at Palau de la Música is Jordi Savall and the concert is scheduled for 20 December.

Savall will be conducting his own Le Concert de Nations formation, together with La Capella Reial de Catalunya, featuring the four solo voices required by the score: Rachel Redmond (soprano), Hagen Matzeit (contratenor), Nicholas Mulroy (tenor) and Matthias Winckhler (bass). This will be the first time that Savall has directed this piece on the majestic stage of the Palau de la Música, making the occasion doubly important.
