The Miguel Marcos Gallery presents Brossa reflejado: visual poems, books and posters
This group of Brossa’s works aims to be a reflection of his artistic genius
One of the key figures in avant-garde Catalan art and a person who was highly influential both for his art and his teachings in a multitude of fields, Joan Brossa (Barcelona, 1919 – 1998) left a legacy that can still be explored, thanks to exhibitions like this one at the Miguel Marcos Gallery.
Brossa reflejado: visual poems, books and posters brings together a group of his works and allows us to go deep into his imagination, especially in the field of visual arts, through which his work is able to take his poetic thinking far beyond everyday frontiers. These unclassifiable works are inspired both by popular Catalan culture and by the artistic avant-garde movements that existed before the Spanish Civil War – poems are transformed into images, objects and installations.
Apart from his visual poems, the exhibition includes posters that are also reflect this breaking down of the borders between image and text. Visitors can also see Brossa’s artist’s books, which provided him with a platform for the expression of his thoughts in a number of different languages, some of which were produced in collaboration with artists like Miró, Chillida and Tàpies.
