A self-portrait by Lluïsa Vidal

The 14th Modernist Fair will be dedicated to the painter Lluïsa Vidal

The fair will take place from 1 to 3 June and will feature everything from workshops and conferences to vintage car parades.

Carrer de Girona, in the section that runs from Carrer de la Diputació to Avinguda Diagonal, will host most of the activities of the 14th Modernist Fair of Barcelona, which is co-organized by CorEixample - the Association of Shopowners of La Dreta de l'Eixample- and the Municipal Institute of Urban Landscape and Quality of Life of the City Council of Barcelona, with the collaboration of the Mercat de la Concepció and the support of the Generalitat de Catalunya. It will take place on 1, 2 and 3 June, and this year will pay special attention to the painter Lluïsa Vidal on the centenary of her death.

Born in 1876, Vidal was known mainly for her portraits, which demonstrated her extraordinary ability to show the emotional state of the person portrayed. But she also cultivated open-air painting, depicting popular festivals, village dances, streets and beaches. Her paintings also offered images of the daily life of women in the late nineteenth century. A number of the activities planned for the fair will focus on her life and work. But the three days of the fair has plenty more to offer, including workshops, guided tours, live music and vintage car parades. The fair also coincides with the local festival of the Eixample, which begins on 26 May.
