“The cinema of the possible”

Xcèntric is opening with Érik Bullot

This will be a performative talk entitled “El cinema del possible” (The cinema of the possible), about the possibility of making a film about el procés, the Catalan independence process.

In October 2019, Érik Bullot held a research workshop that explored the procés in depth at the Centre de Cultura Contemporània de Barcelona. Through this experience, he came up with a performative talk entitled El cinema del possible”, which will be the opening talk of this year’s Xcèntric season. He argues that the procés is a performative film, with its plenary sessions, its theatre-like drama, its images, and its temporality. Bullot even suggests that the unilateral declaration of independence could be deemed to be a performative act. With this as his starting point, he will reflect on the difference between repeating and resuming and ask if a something that happened in the past could still reappear as a promise.

“El cinema del possible” will take place on Thursday, 16 January at 7:30 pm in the auditorium of the Centre de Cultura Contemporània de Barcelona. This is the first event in a huge programme of workshops, courses, screenings and performances, all related with experimental cinema within the Xcèntric 2020 programme. Some of the other events that have already been confirmed and might be of interest are “Su Friedrich. Cossos polítics i sexuals” (Su Friedrich. Political and sexual bodies) on 19 January, “Black Feminism” on 26 January, “Masao Adachi. Teoria del paisatge” (Masao Adachi. Landscape theory) on 6 February and “Access to the View. Les pel·lícules d’Amy Halpern” (Access to the View. The films of Amy Halpern) on 27 February, which the film maker herself will be attending.

Tickets for the opening talk will cost €4. You can get yours on Eventbrite.
