The secrets of Palau Reial Major
The Museu d'Història de Barcelona is offering a guided tour through the medieval monument.
The Palau Reial Major, the centre of the monumental ensemble in Plaça del Rei, was created in 1943. The palace represents one of the few examples of the Catalan civil gothic. King Jaume I had it reformed in the 13th century, and, years later, his son, Jaume II, ordered to build the palatine chapel of Santa Àgata. Pere el Cerimoniós also contributed to the transformations by commissioning the building of the Saló del Tinell, which is the most symbolic space of the palace, as it was the room of the Courts. This medieval nucleus in the heart of Barcelona serves as headquarters for the Museu d'Història de Barcelona (MUHBA), and one of the guided tours they offer will give you the chance to discover much more about the history and art of this palace.
Through the guided tour of El Palau Reial Major you will travel back in time to learn about the origins and history of this palace in the heart of the Gothic Quarter. Besides visiting the most well-known rooms, such as the Santa Àgata Chapel or the Saló del Tinell, you will also have the chance to see other remains of the monumental complex, such as the Roman Barcino from the 1st century BC to the Medieval Barcelona of the 13th century. You will also be able to visit the underground, walk through the streets of the Roman city, take a closer look at the old wall and even see a dry cleaner's shop from the 2nd century AD.
The next guided tours will be on August 6 and September 17, so don't hesitate to buy your ticket now. Tickets are 7,5 euros and can be bought through this link.
