Yet another year, the OBC is celebrating Music Day on the beach

The orchestra will perform major classical music pieces in a free concert on Sant Sebastià beach.

Music Day is 21 June, and concerts and performances are being held around Barcelona to celebrate it. One of the most important ones, now a classic, is being offered by the Barcelona Symphony Orchestra, the National Orchestra of Catalonia (OBC). Yet another year, this orchestra will install a huge stage on the beach to offer a concert open to everyone with the goal of eliminating all of people’s complexes and prejudices surrounding classical music. Without a doubt, it is one of the most popular celebrations on Music Day, and the audiences are growing with each edition. This year the OBC has prepared a programme filled with great music by celebrated composers. For example, you can hear Georges Bizet’s Carmen, Jean Sibelius’ Finlandia, Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov’s Capriccio Espagnol, Camille Saint-Saëns’s Danse Macabre and Johannes Brahms’ Hungarian Dance. You can see the full line-up on the L’Auditori website.

As always, the concert will be on Sant Sebastià beach in the Barceloneta neighbourhood on 21 June at 9 pm. The concert is open and free of charge for everyone.

If you prefer music that isn’t classical, you can head to Fabra i Coats, where free concerts will start at 7 pm. The artists performing there include the Galician singer-songwriter Aries, with her electronic pop; the unclassifiable Myôboku, led by Òscar Garrobé and Marina Herlop; and Ran Ran Ran, with their unique sounds somewhere between Americana, folk and electronic.
