
Enric Sala, ecologist and marine science populariser, will receive the Nat 2022 Prize
The award will be presented on 19 October, along with two honourable mentions to geologist Alícia Masriera and primatologist Jordi Sabater Pi posthumously.
Next Wednesday 19 October will take place the award ceremony of the Nat 2022 Prize granted by the Museum of Natural Sciences of Barcelona. This year, the award will be received by Enric Sala, marine ecologist, resident explorer of the National Geographic Society, founder and director of the Pristine Seas project and dedicated to the exploration and protection of the last remaining marine enclaves in the wild.
The award ceremony will take place at the headquarters of the Museum of Natural Sciences of Barcelona, in the Fòrum building, in a ceremony that will be chaired by Carles Lalueza, director of the Museum, and Jordi Martí, Sixth Deputy Mayor of Barcelona City Council, conducted by the scientific journalist of TV3 Pere Renom, and which will include the lecture Why do we need a wilder world, by the award winner.
The Nat 2022 Prize has been awarded to Enric Sala for his intense activity in ocean conservation, which has contributed to protecting more than six million square kilometres of ocean territory, the equivalent of 13 times the surface area of Spain, and for his work to raise awareness among citizens and the political and economic classes of the vital need to have a healthy ocean and to build new models of development compatible with marine conservation.
This edition of the award also includes two honourable mentions for Jordi Sabater Pi, primatologist, ethologist, naturalist and emeritus professor at the University of Barcelona, and Alícia Masriera, geologist, mountaineer, professor and director of the Museum of Geology of Barcelona.
